May 18th

Von Camp Wood we headed to the Big Bend National Park via 55S, 334W, 90W, and 385S, which was very scenic.

Weiter ging es in den Big Bend Naturpark, via 55S,334W, 90W, und 385S, welche sehr huebsch war.






We stayed the night in Terlingua
Nachtquartier wurde in Terlingua bezogen

May 19th

After breakfast we rode the fabulous 170W along the Rio Grande with Mexico on the other side.
Nach dem Fruehstueck ging es auf die 170W entlang des Rio Grande, mit Mexiko auf der anderen Seite

The ride brought us through Lajitas where the mayor is a goat. Several goats have held this position, with Clay Henry being the most famous for drinking up to 40 beers a day.
Wir fuhren durch Lajitas, eine kleine Ortschaft welche einen Geissbock namens Clay Henry zum Buergermeister waehlte. Clay Henry war bekannt dafuer dass er an die 40 Flachen Bier pro Tag trank.

67W brought us over high planes with beautiful views to Marfa, where we had a tasty lunch at the Food Shark.
Die 67W fuehrte ueber schoene Hochebenen nach Marfa, wo wir gute Fallafel zum Mittagessen hatten.








We continued on 17N to 118W, which was a blast. There are some observatories we rode up to at 8500 feet. Great views!
Weiter ging es auf der 17N zur kurvenreichen118W. Dort fuhren wir zu zwei Sternwarten auf ca. 2600m Hoehe.






After 118W we made some time on I10W, with more great views at first but boring as we neared El Paso, our rest stop for the night.
Hernach bewegten wir uns etwas flotter auf der I10W wiederum mit schoenen Aussichten. Als wir uns jedoch El Paso annaeherten wurde es etwas langweilig.

We stayed at the El Paso Inn, cheap,clean and safe. Close-by we had excellent Mexican food and mariachi music at Los Bandidos.
Wir fanden eine saubere billige Bleibe in El Paso und ein wunderbares mexikanisches Restaurant mit Live Band.

May 20th

We had excellent breakfast burritos and coffee next door to our Inn for $9 !


On we went to Moto Sage, where I had arranged for a tire change a few days ahead. Christian did an excellent job.




From El Paso we took 25N where we ran into another boarder patrol check. This was the third time this happened. I did not have my passport along, but the boarder guys were all friendly and after short or no checks we were on our way again

From 25N we took 152W to Emory Pass and then Silver City, where copper mining is the main trade.





On Emroy Pass overview we met Adrian, a motorcycling skateboarder. Adrian works hard for a few months out of the year and plays hard the rest of the year.




After 152W we continued on scenic 180W to Glenwood and stayed in the Trading Post, a defunct motel. The room was not too bad though. The Whitewater Motel would have been the better choice on hindsight.



Since we arrived in Glenwood after 7pm no food was available, so I had a few beers at the local tavern and chated with the locals.



The local attraction was a catwalk in a canyon, which has been closed for a few years. As a result a few businesses had closed down and little tourism is left.

hell of a ride

I am impressed. Texas - the temp. does it feel warm.

the hotel or motels there in your country are so much different from here.
How much miles you make every day. Always driving on highways or do you take some gravel roads there in Texas.

Well, I lagged a tad behind with posting, but I had some technical difficulties etc .....plus I cebame too lazy to do it during the trip... anyhow. here it continues

May 21st

In the morning we had an excellent breakfast a this spot.
Morgens gab es ein wunderbares Fruehstueck bei dfen 'Golden Girls"




We then took 180N to 159E towards Mogollan. The road was pretty washed out from prior rains, so we turned around
Via 180N and 159E ging es nach Mogollon. Die Strasse war etwas rauh vom vielen Regen und wir kehrten evtl. um








Via 180W we continued towards Alpine, were we met Marta , the eagle lady. She was observing an eagles nest and let us peek through her binoculars.
Ueber die 180W erreichten wir Alpine, wo wir Marta trafen. Marta ist die Adlerfrau von Alpine, und beschaeftigt sich mit der Beobachtung der lokalen Adler.








We continued with beautiful views along 249W and 261N to Springerville
Und weiter ging es mit tollen Ausblicken entlang der 249W und 261N nach Springerville

...Faul war ich nicht aber hatte auch noch keine rechte Zeit aber die nehme ich mir noch für die komplette Reise in Ruhe anzuschauen.

Aussichten entlang des Weges














A friendly biker crew along the way, with one riding a bicycle !
Eine Gruppe von Motorradfreunden, wobei einer mit dem Fahrrad fuhr !





We continued on 191 to St. John for a tank stop. Roland thought of trading his horses ! The young man in the picture is a Rodeo rider.
Auf der 191 ging es weiter nach St.John zum Tanken. Roland wollte die Gäule wechseln, aber der junge Herr im Bild wollte sein geliebtes Rodeo-pferd einfach nicht hergeben.




It was pretty damn windy as we continued on 180W until we reached the Pertified Forest National Park.
Mit starkem Seitenwind auf der 180W erreichten wir schliesslich den Petrified Forest Nationalpark.

We continued on 40W to Holbrook. I wanted to stay in the tacky Wigwam Motel, built in the 50s, were you will sleep in a (concrete) tipi. Alas they were fully booked.
Auf der 40W ging es weiter nach Holbrook. Dort gibt es das formidable Wigwam Motel, wo man seit den 50ern in einem Wigwam (Tipi) schlafen kann. Leider, und zur Erleichterung meines Bruders welcher den Kitsch nicht so toll fand, war alles ausgebucht.






We finished the evening with a good steak and a cold drink
Der Abend wurde mit einem saftigen Steak und einem kalten Getraenk beendet.

Eure Reise, hellebauer ist faszinierend - manche Bilder erscheinen unwirklich, weil man sie so oder ähnlich schon im Kino oder Fernsehen gesehen hat. Mit anderen Worten also: Bekannt aus Film und Fernsehen.
Die USA sind schon ein faszinierendes Land - aber abgelegen.
Gerade deshalb, und weil ich ein paar Sachen schon gesehen habe, fesselt es mich.
